Judith Merkies talks about loneliness on Tijd voor Max

In November 2025, Judith Merkies, policy expert of LONELY-EU, appeared on the Dutch television programme Tijd voor Max. She spoke about loneliness and about the work of the LONELY-EU project.

Tijd voor Max is made by Omroep MAX, a Dutch public broadcaster. Its focus is on people aged 50 and older, though its programmes appeal to a much wider audience.

Judith Merkies leads the policy work in LONELY-EU. She chairs the project’s Evidence-to-Action (E2A) Board, which brings together voices from science, policy, media, business, and technology to turn research on loneliness into policy recommendations.

Earlier in 2025 she was also interviewed for the 250th edition of LINDA., the Dutch women’s magazine that dedicated that issue to loneliness. In that interview she stressed that loneliness can affect anyone, whatever their age, background, or circumstances.

LONELY-EU started in February 2025. The project brings together researchers, practitioners, and communicators from across Europe to understand loneliness and to find ways to reduce it.
