Last updated: 28 October 2026

At LONELY-EU, accessible at https://lonelinessineurope.eu, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal data is handled securely and lawfully. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • IP address
  • Browser and device details
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring website URLs
  • Log and technical data

c) Cookies and tracking technologies

  • Preferences
  • Security features
  • Consent management through the Complianz plugin

You can manage your cookie preferences using the cookie banner.

d) Analytics

We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use our website. These tools collect anonymized or pseudonymized data such as device details, browsing behavior, and page interactions.

e) Data Tools submissions

In the LONELY-EU Data Tools you can suggest a correction, or submit a survey, study, or measure that is missing. We store what you send on this website. Only the people who look after that section of the Data Tools, and the website’s administrators, can read it. They receive an email when it arrives.

Your name and email address are optional. If you give them, we use them only to contact you about your submission, and they are never shown on the website. If a submitted survey is approved, its details (name, data holder, countries, years, link, and question wording) appear in the Data Tools, without your name or email address. The same applies when you use the Data Tools on Ties (ties-community.eu): what you send is stored here.

Your Display choice on this website and in the Data Tools (contrast, chart colours, and text size) is kept in your own browser and is not sent to us.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the website
  • To allow user registration and profile functionality
  • To respond to contact form submissions
  • To process and display comments
  • To send newsletters or updates (with your consent)
  • To improve website performance and user experience
  • To ensure security and spam prevention
  • To manage cookie preferences

Legal bases for processing include consent, legitimate interests, contractual necessity, and legal obligations.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with trusted third-party service providers that help us operate the site, including:

  • Hosting providers
  • Email and newsletter services
  • Analytics providers
  • Security and spam-prevention tools
  • Consent management tools
  • Ties (ties-community.eu), the LONELY-EU network platform: the member map and the events list on our pages load from Ties, and joining the network happens on Ties under its own privacy notice
  • We may also share information with legal authorities if required.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary:

  • Contact form messages: up to 12 months
  • Data Tools submissions: kept so that each review decision can be traced; you can ask us at any time to delete your name and email address from a submission

8. Children’s Privacy

Our website is not intended for individuals under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
