The Ruhr Innovation Lab, a joint initiative of Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University, has been selected for funding under Germany’s Excellence Strategy.
One of its research areas, “The Healthy Mind in a Complex World”, brings together expertise from several disciplines to study how social change and inequality shape mental health and well-being, including loneliness and social isolation. Prof. Maike Luhmann, coordinator of LONELY-EU, helped develop the Lab’s proposal.
LONELY-EU could serve as a blueprint within this research area for connecting science with policy and practice. Building on the project’s work across Europe and its research and stakeholder networks, we hope to contribute to lasting collaborations that can inform local initiatives and interventions.
The Ruhr Innovation Lab offers a way to sustain these efforts and to connect European research with regional action beyond the lifetime of the project.
